Naturally, most of us take optimum care of our skin in the summer to showcase it on the beach or to compliment a mini skirt. Skin looks its best when it is moisturized, healthy and supple. So if we practice good skin care in warmer seasons, why is it at the end of our “to do” list when it requires the most attention? The winter cold instantly dries out our skin. Under all of those layers, our skin finds it hard to breathe as it cracks and shrivels. The face and hands have it the worst this time of year. Skin damaging UV rays are still present and bounce off the bright white snow directly at our complexion. It is time to ditch the lightweight lotions of the summer for rich creams with an SPF of 15 or more. No matter what your skin type, this change is necessary. Sensitive skin should especially be protected because it cannot deal with frigid temperatures. If your skin appears red, flakey and tight, it craves moisture and protection. Good moisturizers create a barrier between the skin and harsh winds. Hands and feet need special attention as well since they usually feel the coldest. A rich hand and foot cream is necessary in the winter months. Dried up rough hands are never attractive. Many women steer clear of hand creams because they take a while to absorb and remain greasy for a while. All though that is usually true, there are hundreds of creams that are specifically designed to eliminate this problem. All over moisturizing is crucial for your skin’s winter survival, so stock up on some great creams. If you aren’t a cream fanatic, stick to Johnson’s baby oil which now comes in a variety of soothing scents and works wonders on the skin.
