Lisa McDonald
Welcome 2008! As we’ve now passed the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year” & by wonderful, I mean STRESSFULL, we can now move onto to bigger & better things (other than the fruit cake Aunt Martha gave you, which is now buried in the bottom of your deep freezer). January is always the true beginning of the fresh start, the turn things around, the make those changes, the live life to the fullest this year. With all these great intentions & resolutions fresh in our minds we all need ways to keep ourselves motivated to accomplish them. At first we’re so proud that we’ve started on our new path to personal success, but then reality sets in. Post holiday “drag downs”, as I like to call them, come rolling in. There’s the always wonderful clearing out of presents from under the tree (where is all of this stuff going to go?), the removal of all Christmas décor (is it still okay to have your tree up in mid-January?) and of course the always thoughtful credit card companies, you know the ones that correspond with you monthly. They are very happy to send you along an even bigger letter in January! If all of this has got you thinking about thawing out Aunt Martha’s fruit cake from your freezer in order to cut yourself a big slab, then here’s some ways to keep a smile on your face & fruit cake buried at the bottom of the deep freeze.
1.Stay positive, yes of course, how else could this not be #1. No matter what you do, tell yourself, you got through it last year; this year will be a breeze.
2. Plan ahead. Brace yourself for all the post holiday shocks by having a plan of attack. Perhaps a little less wining & dining out this month. Instead have friends over for dinner & a movie. Maybe a discussion starter movie like the ones listed below, you’ll have a lot of fun, with cash left over to send to your favorite charge card pen pals.
3. Celebrate the little steps! Sure you may not have accomplished all of your new years goals this month, but I bet you’ve made some progress towards the “new you” & that deserves a pat on the back (or a soak in the tub)!
Some other ways to keep you motivated is taking some time for yourself to learn to how to motivate yourself. Do your friends have goals for the new year? Why not have them over to watch a great movie and discuss the ways you plan to attack this year whole heartedly. A great one to get you started is The Secret (Oprah watches it, why not you?). While watching it you’ll find yourself thinking “Hey, I do that” & “oh I didn’t realize” & “a lot of, AHA’s”. Talk to your friends after. Ask them what they got out of it & what their plan of action is. Another great film is The Ultimate Gift. Warning, have tissue close at hand. See how a Grandfather’s death changed the life of his Grandson for the better. Now that you have the right mindset, there’s nothing to stop you. All the best for the New Year!

Thanks for the info Lisa, I think you are certainly on the right track and I myself look forward to taking those same steps to get a better handle on the new year that we are about to enter and think positive with any new challenges that come my way.
Thanks Lisa for putting into words, what almost every woman feels at this time of year. It’s called the January Blahs’ or Blues. One suggestion that works for me, is using my Living Sunshine – SAD lamp for twenty minutes a day. Every morning I take this time to have my cup of tea (coffee if you prefer), and do some catch-up reading. It gives me extra energy and puts me into a positive mindset. Thank you again Lisa!
Thanks so much for reminding us of what’s important! It is too easy to just let things continue and just carry on as before. Unfortunately once time slids by you can never have it back. It is really important to ask yourself if the time you are living is being spent the way you really want it too!! We only have so much time so let’s plan, with our values as guides. Let’s celebrate what’s good and continue spending our time on that!!
I can identify with what you say Lisa . I have battled high blood pressure all my life 180 over 120 when I was 14 . As well as other health and injury problems , broken back at 20 from playing Australian rules football. Last 35 years playing Basketball has helped with the frustration of never being able have closure in a sport I was passionate about . Taking time out , even dining out or just doing somthing you have never done before can invigorate you and reassure you that you can do somethig other than fret and worry about things you can’t change . I want to be in control of how I feel not be controled by those things that really don’t matter.
About 3 years ago I found a natural product that has really helped , it calms me down and has addressed the many health problems I have endured . No more pain , no more night sweats , no more headaches , don;t get colds or flu . More energy , sleep well and dispite being diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes last year my doctor says my body is now 20 years younger than my age . And I feel 25 too . And my blood pressure is around 130 over 70 and stable . A friend introduced me to this product and I will be forever grateful , my doctor is now encouraging me to use it to overcome my Diabetes , I am now down to less than 30% of my original dosage , I hope to be off medication in a few months if I maintain a sensible diet and continue to take my juice.
Thanks for your artical Lisa .
My friend Ken will tell you about it. John
