No rain, snow or wind-chill should come between you and a gorgeous head of hair. Turn the forecast in your favor with these simple tips.
Forecast: Snow or Rain
An umbrella isn’t the only accessory you need. Use a light-weight protector, and save your style by going au naturel.
1. Smooth hair with heat: Hot-styling tools-ionic or ceramic models, in particular seal the outer layer of the hair, fighting off frizz and flyaways and making your style less vulnerable to mist and raindrops. What you want is smoother version of your natural hair.
2. Embrace your style: Rain and mist mix with hair reveal its true nature. Why fight reality? If you have straight hair, slick it back into a polished ponytail, or if you are blessed with curly hair, gather into a chic chignon updo; let your soft waves hang loose. If your hair gets wet and starts to return to its natural state, you won’t look like you have a schizophrenic style.
3. Spray on a mist shield: A fast-drying, lightweight hairspray with flexible hold adds shine and helps your style maintain its shape without making it stiff. Avoid mousses, waxes and other heavy products, which can get messy in the rain.
Forecast: Cold & Wind
When the temperature plunges, a hat is the easiest way to safeguard your hair. Keep warm (and look cute) with these tips.
1. Coat your hair: Dry air indoors and cold wind outdoors can strip hair of moisture. Use a deep conditioner once a week, and resist shampooing more than three times a week. Frequent shampooing removes natural oils, drying out hair and making it look flatter, and that doesn’t do you any favors during the colder months, when low temperatures and humidity make hair limp.
2. Stop static in its tracks: Static is basically a lack of moisture. Reduce static by giving hair moisture buy using a leave-in conditioning cream and finish off with shine and protect glossing mist, while leaving your stands nourished and gleaming with shine.
3. Look for a silk lining: Hats and scarves are cold-weather necessity, but the resulting hat head and creases are annoying. Choosing a soft knit or cashmere hat with silk or satin band or lining – your hair won’t dent. If you have long hair, twist it up under your hat or tuck the ends under a scarf to protect strands from wind blown damage.
