The shirt dress is a style that has been available for as long as I can remember. I’ve owned versions of this classic throughout my life. While it’s always around, much like; the wrap dress and the sheath dress, it’s making a bigger impression on the fashion industry this Spring.
It’s time to either go shopping for your perfect shirt dress or dig one out of your closet. If you’re out shopping looking for one that is tailored at your natural waist or comes with a belt. If you already own one, update it with a new sash or belt.
This season is all about shape and your waist, which every woman (no matter what your shape) should be thankful for. This silhouette comes in a variety of styles to suite your frame and personality but, the one thing that should be universal is that they should all come in at the smallest part of your body, your upper or natural waist. It’s much like a 50s silhouette.
You will see looser styles out there this season that look like you’re wearing your boyfriend’s shirt, but steer clear unless you want to wear it to the beach. You may also find super short versions in store, unless your comfortable with the length and the occasion is right, pair it with 3/4 length leggings (yes, they’re still in style). If you are sporting leggings, just please wear them with a heel, otherwise you may end up with stumpy legs.
One shirt dress can be worn in variety of ways:
- Wear it as is, nothing fancy.
- Change up the belts or add a fun sash.
- Wear it un-buttoned as a jacket with a simple dress underneath.
- Leave a few buttons un-done and show off a pretty camisole.
- Wear a white collared dress shirt underneath.
- Use it as a bathing suit cover up. Perfect for vacation.
Accessorize till your hearts content. A shirt dress can be worn with heels or flats and oodles of jewelry if you choose a solid print.
