ONE Restaurant is located at the Hazelton Hotel at 116 Yorkville Avenue in Toronto.  This is a unique restaurant.  It serves family style, rather than individual portions, meaning that the food is meant to be shared.  This is generally something that isn’t seen outside of the home or Chinese restaurants. In addition, ONE offers space for private functions.  Their Neil Young Room can hold up to 16 guests, perfect for business meetings and other smaller private events.  Should you require more room, the Yorkville Room has a maximum of 70 guests, with tables in various configurations.  Also available during the summer months is the patio.  On a warm summer evening, this is a great place to people watch.  In fact, it has arguably replaced the Sassafraz corner as the place in Yorkville to see and be seen!

At a recent visit to ONE, my party ordered the roasted carrot, avocado and orange salad with coriander and cumin ($14) and the organic greens with herbs and shallot vinaigrette ($14).  ONE’s starters are quite large, and two orders would be enough for a party of three or four.  The salad had a tangy taste, expected with a salad with citrus fruit.  The organic greens, were, while good, tasted very run-of-the-mill, not too different from other greens.

The Alaskan Black Cod ($25) is perhaps one of the best at the restaurant.  It is very difficult to get fish right, as ONE has.  The cod was very silky, and melted in your mouth. Mains at ONE do not come with sides and must be ordered separately.  There are several dishes to select from and highly recommended are the roasted organic beets.

The dessert menu offers a unique Chef’s Trio of desserts, which can vary day to day.  On the day of my visit, the trio included fruit, apple crumble and crème brulée.  Other desserts on the menu include strawberry shortcake, Dulce de leche cheesecake with caramelized pineapple and passion fruit sauce and berries with sorbet.
