Mixed Results for Adults Living At Home

Last week’s poll question: Many 20 and 30-something adults are living with their parents. Is this a good thing?

It seems that the results are somewhat mixed.  While 36.8% of you said that adults no longer in school shouldn’t be living at home, almost as many, at 31.6% believe that it is fine as long as the adult is under the age of 30.  However (13.2%), some of you seem to believe that living at home as an adult is perfectly fine while 5.3% believe that living with parents won’t allow independence, even if you are living in a basement apartment with a separate entrance.  Finally 13.2% aren’t sure and answered other.

Personally, I don’t think it’s healthy to live with parents after a certain age.  Living at home as an adult is like living in some sort of trap.  While you are legal and should be allowed to do whatever things that normal adults do, you still don’t feel as “adult” as your peers.  For example, if you go out with your friends and come home at 3 in the morning, you worry that you’d wake your parents.  Even if you a basement apartment, you might not feel completely comfortable having a significant other over.  You also don’t have the same kind of space you would if you had your own place, nor can you really decorate your space the way you want.   Even if your parents tell you that you can do whatever you want, the guilt is often still there.  You just don’t feel comfortable going ahead.

This week’s question:  What is your ideal office dress code?

As usual, the poll closes Monday evening at 10:59 pm Eastern Time.
