Natha Perkins: Creating Beautiful Jewellery with Metal
Loading ...Natha Perkins loves to create. Making pretty things gives her “such a thrill!” While she never could master painting or sculpting, metalsmithing became her niche, especially after taking her first course in 2001. She became so enthralled with it that she couldn’t stop. In fact, she majored in metalsmith and jewellery design at Metropolitan State College of Denver.
In 2007, Natha launched her website. Her beautiful hand-made pieces are colourful, unique and timeless, potentially creating heirlooms to be passed down generations to come. Natha’s pieces are inspired by colour combinations and words, among other things. In fact, almost all of her pieces have word combinations, something that she considers to be very powerful. Natha believes that every woman needs to have jewellery which she considers “absolute treasures,” making her feel beautiful, confident and give her memories of “that one time” or “that summer.”
This piece, called “Suspended Gems” is from Natha’s Jewel Collection. To achieve its shimmery colours, Natha paints as many as 10 layers of enamel on the back of each stone. Then, each piece is set in a sterling silver setting where coordinating gems, pearls and crystals are added. Finally, the pendant is placed on a sterling silver chain. Every pendant in the Jewel Collection is inscribed with secret designs and hidden words!
The Winged Heart: A beautiful piece made from hand cut copper, bezel set pearl and thick sterling which moves on the heart. This is one of Natha’s favourites!
Windows: Thick slabs of glass that are bezel set on top of hand stamped words. Natha has her own wording or custom wording available. These pendants, like those from her Jewel Collection, have secret wording in the back.
