Lunch in Toronto: Three Peppers

Three Peppers is the place to go for “green cuisine” – healthier fast food, with a menu made up of light meats, vegetarian and vegan foods. Located on Dundas, just west of University Avenue, Three Peppers has a host of selected sandwiches as well as hot entrees, soups and side salads every day. Prices are slightly higher than chain fast food places in the area. A sandwich with a side salad and drink will cost approximately $10.

Every week, Three Peppers has a featured sandwich. Chicken seems to be the meat of choice at Three Peppers as recent specials have included a Mexican and cilantro chicken quesadillas. At my most recent visit to Three Peppers, I had the Italian chicken panini, a pressed sandwich consisting of chicken, egg plant, tomato, lettuce and onions. Of course, there are other sandwiches available other than chicken. The green apple and brie sandwich is of note. Unlike the paninis, this sandwich is not pressed and is served cold.

Every sandwich comes with a side salad. Selections vary from day to day and usually four or five choices are available. Sides of note are the Three Pepper salad, a mix of green, red and yellow peppers mixed with onions an oil and vinegar dressing and the Italian tomato salad (pictured below). Some salads are staples, yet others appear once in a while, which is too bad. The bean salad, for example, has been missing from the menu for the past couple of weeks.

Three Pepper also serves hot entrees and as of late, have not changed. Currently, the choices are beef lasagna, vegetarian Moussaka as well as a no-crust quiche. The no-crust quiche made up of eggs and a variety of vegetables, including zuchinni, onions and peppers. Recently, Three Peppers introduced stuffed vegetables, consisting of rice stuffed in peppers and tomatos and smothered with tomato sauce. The stuffed pepper is amazing, but the stuffed tomato can be a little on the juicy side. All entrees include a green salad and a choice of dressing.

Lunch is not the only meal which Three Peppers serves. The breakfast menu consists of a pastries, including bagels, croissants and muffins. Three Peppers also serves hot breakfast entrees and has an extensive catering menu. The restaurant opens at 7:30 am to accommodate the breakfast crowd and closes around 6 pm.

Three Peppers is located on 250 Dundas Street West.
