LG Fashion Week continued Thursday starting with Aime Luxury’s debut at Toronto Fashion Week. Designer Monica Mei, an alumna of Ryerson University’s design program, launched the line in 2008 as a seasonless collection. Aime Luxury pieces are very feminine, classical and likely influenced by Ms. Mei’s experiences all over the world.
NADA was up next. Many of the pieces had black, with a somewhat “goth” feel – the models wore red lipstick with black lipliner. Of course, black wasn’t the only colour - many combined white and purple as well. The pieces were completely opposite of Aime. While Aime’s collection was flirty, feminine and fun, NADA was spikey and dark, even when it was combined with colour. Perhaps the most interesting piece was the finale, a black ball gown.
Prospere Magazine was in for something very different with the Carlton Brown show. While most of the designers at LG Fashion Week either designed only for women or were for both, Carlton Brown was completely for men. While Carlton Brown had some classical influences, many of the pieces had brighter colours than most traditional men’s lines. Some were bright to the point that it only would work on the runway. The last show of the day was Ed Hardy swim, which has both men’s and women’s suits. Since this was a fall/winter show, all suits were paired with wintery pieces, such as a jackets, hats and even snowboards as well as other funky accessories to go with the brightly coloured suits.
Friday will be the closing day of Fashion Week. Friday’s schedule includes the Ryerson University show as well as three of last season’s Project Runway Canada’s contestants.
