Today’s four shows were all about new designers. The first show of the day was featured six recent graduates from Ryerson’s design program. Ryerson University also took the opportunity to announce their new graduate fashion program, which will commence September 2010.
The remaining three shows were all participants from the first season of Project Runway Canada (aka PRC). First up was Carlie Wong, whose fall/holiday was inspired by 1970s style. The main colour was not a form of violet, unlike other brands. Instead, Ms. Wong chose to focus on evergreen. Most of Ms. Wong’s collection was fairly petite-friendly, though there were a few pieces which wouldn’t work on anyone who was under 5′8″ due to the pieces being too low-cut (especially at the back). Ms. Wong should have been more sensitive to such issues, being petite herself.
The next Season 1 PRC participant was the winner, Evan Biddell. Reminicent of Thursday’s NADA show, the models in Mr. Biddell’s show had very strange make-up, including black lipstick. While the look worked for the colourful pieces in the collection, it definitely did not make darker clothes, which made up nearly half the line stand out at all. Instead, everything just blended together in some sort of mish-mash.
The last show of the day was Lucian Matis, Season 1’s runner-up. His forest theme had models with wild hair and the collection’s colour scheme featured mostly browns, greens and other nature-based tones. Most interesting of all were the pieces accompanied by antlers.
