Sharp Hill Designs:Scarves, Shawls, Bags and More

After leaving the legal industry five years ago after years of practicing, Kate Woodman decided to take up knitting, something she learned when she was a child.  Kate knitted beautiful, colourful scarves, and eventually “graduated” to making scarves and shawls out of silk.

In 2007, Kate started to design bags, first only evening and small totes.  Eventually, after encouragement from a friend, she began to design larger bags.  This became Kate’s company, Sharp Hill Designs. 

Bags from Sharp Hill Designs are created primarily from uphostery material  or silks and are available in a variety of sizes as handbags, evening bags and totes.  Many of the bags come in patterns such as animal prints or polka dots, while others are in solid, neutral tones.  Several of the evening bags are clutches.  Prices for bags range between $70 and $110.

Kate’s silk shawls come in either charmeuse or dupioni.  The charmeuse shawls measure approximately 20″ wide and the customer decides on its length (between 72″ and 80″).  The shawls come in orange, green and turquioise, with black or grey as its contrast.  The charmeuse shawls are reversible and cost $105. The dupioni shawls come in three styles (basic, basic with piece work and one with a contrasting border), with several different colours to choose from.  The size of the duiponi shawls are between 20-24″ wide and 72″-80″ in length, depending on the customer’s decision. Dupioni shawls range from $105-$125, depending on the style.

Scarves, like the shawls, come in charmeuse and duiponi. The charmeuse scarves are solid black and its ends are made from chiffon, cut velvet or a host of other fabrics.  While the standard scarves are between 9-11″ inches in width and 60-72″ in length, they can be cut wider and be worn like a shawl.  Charmeuse scarves are $95.  Dupioni scarves, on the other hand, are shorter and have a patch of piecework on one of its ends.  Each scarf is unique and no two are exactly the same.  Dupioni scarves are $75.

Besides scarves, bags and shawls, Sharp Hill Designs also produces eyeglass cases and belts.  Most products are available for sale in their online store.  Sharp Hill Designs is based in Connecticut.
