Summer has finally arrived and it’s time to get your summer wardrobe out of hibernation. So whether you’re hitting the beaches, parties or just enjoying the outdoors, here are some trends that will keep you in style no matter what you’re doing.
This summer, it’s all about making a statement. Sky’s the limit when it comes to accessorizing your outfits. Animal print is huge this season and animal print scarves such as leopard or cheetah print can really dress up a basic, all-black outfit.
Another fashion trend that I love this season which has continued from spring is bold jewellery. Everything from chunky bracelets to huge, geometric-shaped necklaces and earrings. There’s really no limit to how much jewelry you can wear this season.
For those of you who will be relaxing outdoors, comfortable pants are in this summer. Who doesn’t like being comfy and in style at the same time? Everything from cargo pants, boy-cut, harem to skinny are trends this season. Make sure all the pants are rolled up to show your ankles paired with flip flops to give you that summer look.
It’s also time to say hello to those short shorts that have been hiding in your closet. Everything from safari, Bermuda to denim shorts. They are all in style and perfect for those who will be lounging at the beach this summer.
A great look this summer is the Bohemian dress. It has that dressy look but is worn in a casually with flip flops. It’s great to wear on top of a bikini at the beach or can be worn if you’re on vacation somewhere.
In terms of colours, I have been seeing two extremes. On one spectrum, bright colours are in such as electric blues, corals to neon colours which I noticed browsing through clothing stores. I really like this aspect of summer as you really can go all-out with colours without thinking twice about it being “too much.” On the opposite end, light, pastel colours from pink, blue, yellow and green are in this season and are great for that feminine, soft look.
For a night out, cocktail dresses are perfect for this season. They really never go out of fashion and it gives you that elegant look. Asymmetric dresses are also huge this summer such as single-shouldered dresses and tops. Fringed dresses and accessories such as purses are in-style this season as well. For that romantic, feminine look, ruffled, lace, flowy dresses are perfect and have been seen on the runways this season.
As for shoes, extreme high-heeled shoes and Boho wedges are in. Again, it’s about making a statement. And of course, the gladiator sandals are in fashion this summer as well although I’m not a huge fan of them.
To pull of these looks, you really don’t have to go out to buy a whole summer wardrobe. It’s all about using what you have and layering. Try different a combination, mix and match items. For example, for a bold look that makes a statement, wear a neutral outfit with a funky, bright belt. That’s really the most basic way to update your look.
So this summer, there’s need to hold back. Everything goes so enjoy and make the most of it.
