Mir Handbags: All About Shapes, Patterns, Art and Function

mirclutchjpg

Montreal bag designer, Miriam Fortier is about “art and function.”  Her line Mir Handbags, launched in her hometown three years ago, when she was just a couple of years out of fashion school.  Bags were her thing – one doesn’t have to worry about dress size when it comes to bags – the right bag works with more body types than any outfit would.

As a designer, Miriam focuses a great deal on shapes and patterns – the patterns on her bags are painted, making each one of them unique. In addition to being hand-made, each one of Miriam’s bags is treated with a stain-repellent.

Miriam focuses on a classical look, with bags which are timeless and ageless – the bag works regardless of whether one is young or young-at-heart.  Mir Handbags has a variety of styles, ranging from hobo bags to clutches and totes.  The Summer 2009 line also has scarves.  For extra protection, each bag comes with a cover which can double as an environmentally friendly grocery bag!

Currently, Mir Handbags is available in stores across Montreal and recently debuted in Toronto.  There are plans to expand across the country soon.  For a list of stores, please visit this link.    Mir Handbags range from just under $100 to approximately $160.
