From VAWK to the Holt Renfrew Media Cocktail to L’Oreal’s 100 Years of Fashion and more, the first day was a blast. VAWK, the line by Sunny Fong, winner of Project Runway Canada, Season 2, was the first show this week. Held at the recently renovated Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), the collection featured was mostly neutral-coloured, with a splash of pink.
The VAWK show was followed by a media party at Holt Renfrew. Held on the third floor of the store, there were nibblies, drinks as well as a fashion show featuring designers such as Lida Baday and Pink Tartan. Sunny Fong, who had presented earlier, made an appearance at the party
The evening ended at the tents on King and Shaw with several presentations. In the runway (which is a converted garage – the King and Shaw venue used to be a car dealership), L’Oreal celebrated a century of beauty with styles inspired by the last ten decades. The receipient of the first Fashion Design Council of Canada’s Designer Development Fund was also announced – Lucian Matis, the runner up of Project Runway Canada’s first season. The evening ended with a presentation called Stratford Shakespeare Festival “Wear Love Alive,” with pieces inspired by selected productions from the past several seasons.
This is set to be an exciting week. Tuesday’s designers include Jason Meyers, David Dixon and Andy The-Anh.
