Pink Tartan Brings Grunge Back

Kimberly Newport-Mimran’s Spring/Summer 2010 was a little bit of a disappointment. Being one of the highest profiled designers participating in LG Fashion Week, audiences expected much, much more from Pink Tartan.  After all, the show was, as usual, packed.  However, it seems that the audience was transported back to circa 1992 with several of her pieces with shapeless hoodies and sloppily-dressed models. For spring/summer, Do we really want to go back to that time period?  Let’s hope that band shirts and broomstick skirts aren’t next. Perhaps Ms. Newport-Mimran wanted to draw away from 80s influences.  If that’s the case, then people might welcome it – after all, the 80s was basically one walking fashion disaster after another.

Of course, not everything in the collection was “grunge chic.”  There were some pieces which were lovely, including a black and white patterned dress and trench as well as an ever-versatile little black dress. Pink Tartan Spring/Summer 2010 was not a complete disasater.

Here’s an interesting note: A dress in the Pink Tartan blog (entry dated October 16) was missing from the show.  That dress would have made a big difference, perhaps even be the star of the entire presentation.

Clearly whoever wrote this pathetic ignorant review has no taste and knows nothing about fashion…grunge?

One more for the road…top editors, buyers, and journalists with credibility had quite the opposite review from you…I think you need to do your homework!!

    Dear George:

Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion on fashion. Everyone has different tastes and it doesn’t mean that they have no fashion sense. Really, does everyone have to agree with the rest of the world? Would you jump off the CN Tower because everyone said that it was a cool thing to do?

p.s. by the way, I have spoken with a few people, including ones who are insiders in the industry who did not find the collection appealing either.
